Entries must be new artworks specifically made for the challenge and cannot be based on the works of another artist or film, TV, or game projects.

Challenge Judging

Artists participating in this competition must be members of CGAfrica.com. Registration on CGAfrica.com is free.
Artists participating in the competition must subscribe to our social media platforms.
Entry is limited to individual artists; therefore team/studio/group entries are not eligible.
This competition is open to African artists of all ages.

Eligibility

Presentation shot: your character from different angles, which can be posed from a minimum of three (3) angles (front, side, and back). Your work-in-progress (silhouettes, back views, sketches, progress shots, etc.) should be included.

Deliverables

This challenge is exclusively for individual participants. Team submissions will not be accepted or considered eligible for participation. Each entry must be the sole work and effort of an individual participant.

Participation as a Team

Participants are required to ensure that their design submissions do not infringe upon any existing intellectual property rights. Entries that infringe upon or violate the rights of any third-party intellectual property will be disqualified from the challenge.

Please note that failure to comply with these terms and conditions may result in disqualification from the challenge and/or the removal of submitted entries.

Please be aware that a service charge, amounting to a maximum of 15% of the competition prizes, will be deducted by Bank and CGAfrica. This charge covers bank charges incurred.
Participants are advised that, upon winning a prize in this competition, CGAfrica will deduct a service charge, not exceeding 15% of the awarded prize value, before disbursing the prize amount. This deduction is standard procedure and is detailed in the competition terms and conditions.

Jambo the Donkey

Meet Jambo, the whimsical donkey with a heart of gold. With his sturdy build and thick gray coat, Jambo cuts an imposing figure, but it's his distinctive eye patch that truly sets him apart. Despite any hardships he's faced, Jambo maintains a positive outlook on life, always ready for adventure with his unwavering loyalty and playful spirit. , Now, he spends his days spreading joy and laughter wherever he roams, a beloved friend to all who cross his path.

DONKEY CHARACTER DESIGN

2D illustration isn't my forte, but here's my take on Jambo based on the description given. I thought about it and decided to keep him on four legs rather than two, mainly because it fits better with a short story I played in my head about him helping someone out. To show that he's proudly African, I added a lot of markings to his fur. When coming up with the design, I kept in mind that it could later on be translated into 3d by another artist, so I kept the proportions simple and readable.

Jambo the Whimsical Donkey

My depiction Jambo is inspired by his name, which sort of reminds me of the word "jumbo" or "Rambo". When I think of jumbo I think large, sturdy and strong. Rambo was also a very adventurous hero, hence the small mullet on Jumbos head, which is a nod to Rambo. Jumbo is a hero with a sense of humour, but he doesn't fear trotting into battle or jumping with his short sturdy legs.

This is a character design covering the characteristics details of jumbo the whimsical donkey who is sturdy and cheerful. I love this.
